A soldier recently baptized was placed on board, to secure its prosperous voyage ; its sails were then unfurled, and, with the other ships in its train, it 3/5(1).   The book is packed with information and would no-doubt be of interest to anyone undertaking a detailed study of Belisarius' campaigns, but for the most part it came across as a dry re-telling of the contemporary histories with little commentary to bring it to life/5. Robert Graves's sources for Count Belisarius include some of the great historical works of classical antiquity: Livy, Thucydides, Herodotus, and certainly Xenophon in the Persian war sections. The novel is set in the sixth century of our era. Belisarius is perhaps the last loyal general the Roman Empire can still count on.4/5.

Belisarius is a series of science fiction novels written by David Drake and Eric Flint. The story follows Flavius Belisarius, a real historical figure. +The Story. Belisarius is primarily science fiction though some might describe it more accurately as alternative history. It chronicles the war between two competing societies. The sixth century was not a peaceful time for the Roman empire. Invaders threatened on all fronties, but they grew to respect and fear the name of Belisarius, the Emperor Justinian's greatest general. With this book Robert Graves again demonstrates his command of a vast historical subject, creating a startling and vivid picture of a decadent era. The Belisarius series is a alternate history sci-fi series by American novelists David Drake and Eric Flint. The books were written by Flint based on Drake’s plots. The series revolves around real-life historical figure Flavius Belisarius and a war between two societies that finds its way to 6th century Earth. Belisarius is really fleshed out in this novel, pardon the the book is read from the perspective of Belisarius being the axis of the story, then the reader can have a really good time. This book accomplishes the nearly impossible by making I actually care about some random successor chapter of the Ultramarines and the most boring alien.
